Services

Noted Music Services provides a multitude of services for musicians, scholars, composers, audiences, and more! While completed projects in the public domain are always available for download, we are always interested and available in servicing new projects, including those that are currently under copyright. Below are all of the services we offer, as well as the different ways that you can participate in bringing forward a new kind of music. We welcome you to our community of musical changemakers!

Custom Commission

When you commission us directly, we will work closely with you to make sure that we meet all of your needs on a short timeline. You get to select which edition you wish for us to use as reference, and we will adapt it to suit your musical vision while maintaining the integrity of the original work. All of our services are available for commission, and we are able to mix and match services to make an edition of this music that is truly your own.

We are able to accept music that is copyrighted and music that is in the public domain for a commission. We do ask that you prove ownership of the copyrighted music. Please keep in mind that the only way to service a copyrighted piece of music through our business is by commission. This is because we cannot post any copyrighted material to our website for download in order to protect the copyright owner.

To request a custom commission, you will fill out a Google form, and one of our team members will promptly be in touch with you to give a quote. They will continue to work with you as your point person and artist on your project. Our hourly rate for a commission is $49.  We are pleased to share that 85% of your money will go directly toward the artist servicing your project. We value our artists’ time and individuality and prioritize paying them a fair wage. Please know that any time our artist spends in communication with you will not be time added to your bill. Our company pays a separate administrative wage to cover all time dedicated to communication with our clients.

Thank you for thinking of us when it comes to your custom music materials, and we look forward to working with you in this capacity.

Personal Archive Transfer

Inspired by the announced closure of music notation software Finale, we are offering a service to help today’s composers transfer all of their work into MuseScore files. MuseScore is an open source program, which may be seen as a more reliable software, as it is the community that keeps it running, not monetary business. MuseScore is very user-friendly and is updated regularly. Because of the rich community backing up this program, there are detailed online resources that can teach users to discover just about any feature one could think of.

When you reach out about a Personal Archive Transfer, we will initially work with you on one piece of your music, 5 pages or less, to offer you a sample of our work before you commit to more transfer projects. Until August 26, 2025, all sample projects will be half price at $24/hour. To protect your work, we clean out all of our devices 4 times annually and delete all files from Personal Archive Transfer projects.

To request a sample, please fill out a Google form, and our team member Caroline will promptly be in touch with you to give an estimate of when your file will be completed. She will continue to work with you as your point person and artist in transferring your entire archive, should you choose to move forward. For the continuation of your project, the hourly rate is $49.

Thank you for considering us as a resource to help you transfer all of your musical compositions, and we look forward to working with you in this capacity.

Community Wishlist

Interested in seeing particular materials but not willing or able to pay an hourly commission rate? You may be interested in adding to our Community Wishlist! With enough collective interest in servicing a piece of music, we can make it available with no commission charge—only a download fee!

Due to the nature of this work, we can only consider shorter works on our wish list, either a stand-alone piece or a single movement or scene of a larger work.  Complete multi-movement works will instead need to be commissioned.  We are also unable to take requests for arrangements or translated supertitles. Please also keep in mind that this wish list can only include works in the public domain, as we do not post copyrighted material directly to the website.

Tell your friends and colleagues about our Community Wishlist! It takes collective interest for us to be able to do this work, but you have the power to help to make it happen when you encourage your friends and colleagues to jump on board. We look forward to making these dreams a reality.

Sponsor a Project!

If you want to help make change but don’t find yourself needing to request a commission, we will always gratefully accept your sponsorship. With this donation, we want to honor who you are and make sure that your contribution goes toward a project that aligns with your values and interests. Please write to us to introduce yourself and share with us a little bit about what kind of music you like and if you have any particular kind of project you see yourself helping to fund.

Depending on what kind of project requests we currently have, we may match you with an individual’s Custom Commission or with a popular Community Wishlist idea, or we may recommend that your sponsorship go toward another musician’s Personal Archive Transfer.. If you feel as though none of the current projects match your vision, we are happy to either run a campaign seeking a sponsorship recipient or to hold your donation until the right project comes along. We always keep our communication open and honest to guarantee that you always have as much involvement as you like in your sponsorship.

Thank you very much for your contribution. Our team, our community, and the greater music industry all greatly appreciate your generous gift. Your presence as a part of our community is invaluable.

Our Services

Transposition

Never again miss out on performing a piece of music just because it wasn’t written for your instrument! This service is available for musicians of all kinds: sing or play a jazz standard in your preferred key, move your musical theatre song into a more comfortable range, throw fach out the window with an edition made for your voice, play any instrumental piece for any range on your own instrument, practice music to be performed at 415 at your 440 piano without any trouble, and more! We can move anything into any key and can even customize to your specific instrument.

Audition Cuts & Abridged Edition

I’m sure most of us have prepared for an audition, cutting our piece down to only the best sections for the panel, meticulously cut and taped the accompanist score with bold markings, and still it seemed confusing for the provided pianist to keep up. Now, you can bring your audition accompanist an edition of your music with your cuts seamlessly blended together. It’s also a great option for adapting music for certain competition or concert environments! We can provide standard cuts and customized cuts as well.

Arrangement

With a new arrangement, a piece of music can be completely changed. Whether it’s a timbral shift from new instrumentation or a complete change in feel from reharmonization and fresh rhythms, we can help each other to see familiar pieces in new light. Arrangements can also open up a world of possibility in smaller music communities by making larger ensemble pieces accessible to the instruments available to them.

Modern Edition & Realization

Music has shifted so drastically in the past 200 years that it can feel alienating to look at old scores. We can take this old musical language and rewrite it exactly the same with today’s notation and engraving standards. There’s no reason to be afraid of mensural notation, bad handwriting, and weird formatting anymore with our modern editions now available. We can make early music even more accessible by realizing figured bass and tablature into a rich instrumental part with all of the chords integrated melodically. No tablature system has proven too difficult for us yet, and we welcome you to put this to the test!

Text Translation

As many wonderful resources as there are, there is still so much vocal repertoire that does not have English translations readily available. This can make it impossible to perform if the singer isn’t able to translate the text themselves to understand what they are singing about. However, we are able to provide program-ready translations to share with singers and their audiences. We can translate into English any music in French, German, Italian, Russian, Slovene, and Yiddish.

MIDI Practice & Performance Tracks

Are you having trouble learning a ridiculously difficult piece of music? Do you find yourself in a last-minute lurch needing to perform without any pianist available? We can help you with both of these problems with MIDI practice and accompaniment tracks. We can provide practice tracks with just your line, with your line emphasized in the context of the other parts, and/or just the other parts for you to practice against. We can alter the generated instrumentation of accompaniment tracks so that certain digital sounds don’t feel jarring in the style of the music. This can be a great tool to put out the fire in all kinds of emergency situations.

Lyrical Translation

It’s becoming increasingly common for certain venues to request that singers perform only music in English for their English-speaking audiences. So much of our programming is planned around lyrics and their themes, and this greatly limits our options. In order to make all music accessible to English-speaking audiences, we are able to provide new English lyrics to any song or aria in French, German, Italian, Russian, Slovene, or Yiddish. We will also take great care to underlay this new text so that the vowels and consonants are comfortable in different ranges of the voice.

Supertitles

Quality supertitles are so important to the understanding of an opera and can even benefit the audience experience of concert music as well. Great supertitles don’t just translate what is happening in the music, but must transition so smoothly that the audience is easily able to follow along with both the screen and the live performance without distraction. We take quality translations and meticulously format them alongside the music for a seamless experience. Our supertitles continue to be more accessible, as we charge you low rates for purchase of our supertitles, whereas other companies will charge higher rates for rent only. Once purchased, you can reuse our supertitles every time your company performs this work forever.
